Announcing: DraftWise is now collaborating with Cohere

Company opens its London office and gains traction in Toronto, underscoring strong international demand for its AI-powered contract and negotiation platform

NEW YORK, NY  / October 9, 2024 / DraftWise, an AI-powered contract and negotiation platform for lawyers, today announced a new collaboration with Cohere, a leading security and data privacy-focused enterprise AI company. The cooperation will enable DraftWise to run critical generative AI and agentic workflows within Cohere's enterprise AI suite, driving performance improvements.

Consistent with DraftWise's commitment to accuracy, the company selected Cohere because it integrates with DraftWise's core technology, enabling lawyers to access relevant deal history. As many have learned in their generative AI experiments over the past year, the "information retrieval" component in an AI application is often the weakest link. Therefore, AI application providers need a strong "AI agent" model that understands context, and Cohere has been recognized for its excellent agent performance across high-value practical solutions. This will further refine retrieval accuracy, working with DraftWise's proprietary models, to deliver high-quality results.

"The world's highest-performing law firms rely on our platform to help their clients win and close billion-dollar deals, so accuracy and reliability are non-negotiable. Cohere helps ensure we continue to deliver the best possible experience," said DraftWise co-founder and CEO, James Ding. "In our early work with the Cohere enterprise AI suite, specifically, leveraging their retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities, we've seen significant performance improvements. Cohere's AI solutions are optimized for business-critical workflows and work seamlessly with our proprietary models and other components of our ecosystem."

Cohere's enterprise AI suite supports end-to-end RAG systems which have become a foundational building block for enterprises adopting large language models (LLMs) and customizing them with their proprietary data, as DraftWise has done. The companies are also exploring additional ways to work together, leveraging additional AI tools from Cohere.

"We're excited to be working with DraftWise to power AI-driven solutions that more efficiently facilitate contract negotiating and drafting. DraftWise is helping legal teams perform at their peak by leveraging Cohere's secure enterprise-grade AI technology to provide lawyers seamless access to accurate and verifiable information like relevant deal history. Our generative and search AI models will enable the company to build impactful RAG systems that ensure it can unlock real value for law firms from its rich data stores," said Saurabh Baji, SVP of Engineering at Cohere.

Draftwise Expands Reach

In conjunction with enhancing its platform performance, DraftWise has grown its footprint, particularly in the UK. The company has opened a dedicated office in London after winning several new customers. The space is strategically located near several top firms in the Shoreditch neighborhood.

While the company experiences strong deal flow in London, it is also a key market for talent. DraftWise Head of Sales Josh Sandman (ex-Pendo); Head of Product, Niall Grogan (ex-Palantir); and Product Design Lead, Sumner Bhandal (ex-Robin AI), are all based in the London office. DraftWise will continue to hire aggressively amid its growing commercial presence.

DraftWise's London base will be used to open doors throughout Europe as well. In addition to direct sales, the company will have a strong presence at the industry's leading trade shows, including ILTA EURO and Inside Practice's Inaugural UK event, where DraftWise Chief Customer Officer Will Seaton will be speaking.

Additionally, DraftWise is experiencing strong interest in its platform from several Canadian firms. The company has signed commercial agreements with several of the region's largest transactional-focused firms and is expanding its footprint at major law firms across Canada. To deepen relationships on the ground, the company will host an Innovation Happy Hour on Wednesday, October 9, during which the DraftWise team will lead a lively discussion on the future of generative AI in legal.
